Face up to the irony…

• FROM the headline (Today the face mask is universal, Letters online, October 23) and Wilson John Haire’s sensitive comments on not making a racial issue concerning face masks… remember in 2018 foreign secretary B Johnson mocked women who wore the niqab (“letter boxes” and “bank robbers”).

Now, “Human beings must be able to see each other’s faces and read their expressions. It’s how we work.” Masks are deemed a hallmark of a civilised community in which we all care for each other. Oh, the irony!
