• MICHAEL McCann (The linkage of Black Lives Matter to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is a canard, July 2) says “…the suggestion that Israel is an apartheid state is arrant nonsense”.

I’m surprised to read such a statement coming from an ex-MP. What about the checkpoints subjecting Palestinians to spend hours in order to travel from one town to the other in their own country?

What about the wall dividing villages and land? What about the roads only for settlers? If this is not apartheid what is it then?
