• I WISH the Duke of Edinburgh the very best and am delighted that his son, Prince Charles, was able to visit him in hospital, which would no doubt have boosted the old fellow’s morale.

And I do not blame the royal family for the fact that countless ordinary folk have suffered without the support of their close family members in our hospitals and care homes.

It has been made clear that the Duke’s stay at the King Edward VII’s Hospital in Marylebone is not connected to the Covid-19 virus. But family visits to patients unaffected by the coronavirus in many hospitals have in many cases been restricted.

I’m sure the Duke and Prince Charles would agree that wherever possible their treatment should be extended to all.
