Bloomsbury phone masts

Masts on rooftops in Bloomsbury

• OUR family has been staying in Bloomsbury for a while now and it’s always a pleasure to visit but something is puzzling.

What constitutes a conservation area and who decides what to preserve, alter, degrade or dismantle within it?

These hideous masts (EE, Huawei, whoever you are, surely you can design better than these?) newly installed on the Bedford Hotel roof are a perfect illustration of how conservation areas shouldn’t work.

It seems that if you pay enough to the right people, conservation area or not, you can alter, remove, or cut out and cut down whatever you want.

Come on Camden Council, Bedford Estates and the Imperial Group (if ever a hotel was misnamed), you can do better than this.
