How the hard right might gain more ground in Europe

• WHEN it comes to the European Parliament might voters take the opportunity to express dissatisfaction with the EU?

They see some recognisable individuals and a crowd of anonymous white people, two-thirds male? We know they are well paid and pensioned with access to lavish expenses, no receipts required. They also benefit from a very accommodating rate of tax on their “earnings”.

How great might be the temptation to show disapproval by voting hard right in the election for the parliament? With those parties getting 25 per cent plus in domestic elections this could result in them securing over a third of the seats in the parliament.

If this should occur, right-wing parties will be eligible for generous payments from the EU budget. The contributors through the agency of the EU will be paying large sums to, in some cases, genuine neo-Nazis!
