How about making the British Library work again?

The British Library

• NOW HS2 has left a giant hole near Euston station, and the folly of taking what is left of that white elephant to Euston is apparent to (almost) everyone, we need joined-up thinking to make the best of this terrible job.

How about making the British Library work again? Before it was even finished, Margaret Thatcher had sold off the land behind it (where the Crick Institute now is) that was meant to store the books.

Instead, much of the collection is at Boston Spa in Yorkshire. The hack on the BL last October made the folly of this decision clear: even now, hardly any of those books are available to readers.

Why not use the bombsites for underground storage for the Boston Spa collection? Tunnels exist, linking Euston to St Pancras, which could be used to fetch them to and fro.

The land above ground could surely be used for other purposes, notably affordable housing.
