High spending means a payback time will come

‘We will be paying for decades to come’
• WE are spending money like confetti! But the generations to come will pay the price, literally.
There seems to be no definite sense of planning, here, figures are conjured out of thin air and cash is being doled out to all and sundry irrespective of whether it’s actually needed.
Certainly those most financially vulnerable should have priority and indeed this has already happened. As a senior, I can vouch for that myself.
But should we be dolling out to those who are more independent cash wise? Perhaps it’s administratively easier to just roll out to all instead of devising a cumbersome means-test thereby establishing those most needy.
One might have thought that, with the technology available, ascertaining people more in need of help might not have been too difficult?
The energy companies have made some concessions to alleviate the blow of the oncoming storm of price rises; and also the government.
We can all agree or disagree about whether the amounts are sufficient. To some nothing is ever enough!
Certainly we will be paying for this for decades to come. Like myself, many in the same boat will not be around to suffer this.
Apart from circumstances beyond our control, this crisis has been coming for a long time. There has been far too much reckless spending for years and now the chickens are coming home to roost.
The media, in my opinion, have possibly deliberately stirred up an excess of hysteria over the potential rise in energy costs but we are yet to see any real figures.
The top end of energy consumption has been given much publicity but many of us, especially those living in smaller houses, will not see such rises in costs. I think the media have a case to answer here.
I feel personally that we pensioners have been treated rather well, though others may see it differently. One way or another, payback time is bound to come.
