Harrington: We still need a voice like Dawn’s
Journalist exposed cruel policies which affected those struggling the most

IT was three years since we lost our pal, the campaigning journalist Dawn Foster, on July 9.
If she was still with us, Harrington would be itching to hear her take on Sir Keir Starmer’s new government, and would almost certainly be burning with rage over its refusal to lift children out of poverty by scrapping the Tories’ benefit cap.
Labour MPs have milked the landslide victory for all it’s worth with a million selfies on the train to the House of Commons, at the House of Commons, and leaving the House of Commons. But few can come up with a fair reason why it is not acting fast to help children with this measure. Hey ho, as long as the super rich are protected from any new taxes.
Dawn exposed cruel policies which affected those struggling the most and she would be a great counterpunch when she was invited on news channels to tell Tory pundits how blind they were being.
She had her own lived experience of being in care as a child and growing up without a lot more than just Sky TV.
She died far too young at 34 in 2021, but remains an inspiration as to how the written word can change things.
