Mick Lynch

THE RMT’s Mick Lynch was among the May Day marchers this week – and a devoted fanclub was in tow. Admirers who have enjoyed him devour one TV inane interviewer after another in the past couple of years have been snapping up stan T-shirts with an image of the union leader arms crossed and the legend “Simple As”. Proceeds go to the RMT strike fund but even so sources tell Harrington that Mick groans a little in despair when he sees somebody coming up to him wearing one – as an eager fan did in Trafalgar Square on Wednesday. He’ll insist that the trade union movement is about the collective and not the individual.

IT was a busy time for Laurence Fox who last week was not only losing a libel case for wrongly calling people paedophiles online but also conspicuously cuddling Tommy Robinson at a gathering in London. His behaviour was no bar, however, to booking wraparound paid adverts across a host of London local newspapers. These included the grand old Ham & High whose readers were confronted with Fox’s divisive face before they got into the newspaper itself. Times are tight but it was cash the Westminster Extra was happy to miss out on.

• ON the subject of advertising, Sadiq Khan’s holy code for London’s transport network has turned into a right old mess. Harrington has joined the great bemused before when TfL blocked wedding confectionary from being used on a promotion for a theatre show – even the cake was in tiers etc. Comedian Ed Gamble wasn’t allowed to show a hot dog in his tour poster.  And yet if you stared across the tube concourses this week, the Casino888 website has been allowed to book lots of space to promote… well, ways for you to lose your money. With problem addiction at a high, isn’t it time gambling ads went the same way as wedding cakes?
