Harrington: Take a look around, Murad… this city is red and white
Former London Assembly member moans about Arsenal coverage, claiming it’s ‘not local’

Regular reader Murad Qureshi is struggling with Gooner joy
OH dear, please do read the pitiful letter from the former London Assembly member Murad Qureshi in this week’s newspaper.
You will find the glory supporter moaning like only Manchester United fans can about our coverage last week of Arsenal’s recent success and claiming it’s “not local”. Has he been blind to what has occurred on our streets over the past six weeks?
It doesn’t matter if you are walking around in Islington, Acton or Brixton or Bow – and include the West End too – you will see people proudly wearing their Gooner shirts, as if they won the league themselves.
They are everywhere and so many of them. The replica strips seem almost glued to their backs for the summer.
There isn’t one “London FC” – and it’s nice that the capital has lots of historic teams which have played such important parts in how sport in our city has evolved.
A London politician like Murad, and the Tooting-raised Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan for that matter, could even try supporting one.
But what we have seen by the huge numbers on the streets is that this city is in love with one particular team and it plays in red and white.
Look around, Murad, and you’ll see why the paper covered it.
