Harrington: Quiet weekend in Newcastle
Fans’ good-natured takeover of the capital city

YOU wonder what the streets of Newcastle were like over the weekend as every single Geordie seemed to be in London for the football, whether they had a ticket or not.
Every corner you turned in the West End, there was somebody with a black and white scarf. The Liverpool fans were hopelessly outnumbered and outsung.
I was even sat next to a couple of the Magpies’ fans when I took in a matinée at Sadler’s Wells over in Islington on Saturday.
It’s not the time to tell them the Carabao Cup is a rather Micky Mouse trophy – it would be mean to steal away their fun after a 70-year wait and such a good-natured takeover of the capital city.
