Emily Craddock
A BIT like the way she played for Spurs’ official ladies team long before women’s football got the attention it deserves, Emily Craddock was trying to save the planet at a time when others still needed convincing there was a problem.
You can read about her in our sister paper the Camden New Journal this week which is running a special “green” edition.
Later this year will be the 20th anniversary of the former Quintin Kynaston student’s death in Brazil.
Spirited and brave, she was working as a radio technician on Greenpeace’s Arctic Sunrise ship. Campaigners were trying to stop illegal logging of the rainforest when she fell overboard, apparently in a storm. The full circumstances have never properly been established.
“We are in the lungs of the world and they are disappearing,” she lamented in her logbook. “Stolen from our future children by greed.”
May she not go forgotten.
