Lloren plays the Gibson Garage All-Day Acoustic Festival
SO the mystery has been revealed. Ben Lovett’s Lafayette has taken a new turn, transforming from a music venue into the home of Sabrage, a new circus and cabaret production from the Menier Chocolate Factory and Strut and Fret. While live music from new and established artists will continue to grace the Lafayette stage, Lovett says, for now, at least, these shows will be less frequent. In the meantime, check out the seductive theatrical spectacular, previewing from March 15.
• Expect the unexpected when Windows95Man, dubbed Finland’s most entertaining DJ, brings his intense live show to Islington Academy on Feb 25. Combining 90s Eurodance and techno hits with unexpected surprises, this sounds like an unforgettable evening.
• Join friends – actress Vicky McClure, filmmaker and broadcaster Jonny Owen and Jon McClure, frontman of Reverend & The Makers at DAY FEVER, their joyous day time party at HERE at Outernet on March 1 and April 5. Running between 3pm and 8pm, the ethos is no dress code, no egos and pure positivity.
• Alt pop artist and former The Voice finalist Lloren, who released alternative Valentine’s Day anthem The Lonely Hearts Club on February 14 ahead of the release of debut album It’s Always Sunny in LA, will join the packed line-up for the Gibson Garage All-Day Acoustic Festival on Feb 22 – part of the venue’s one year anniversary celebrations.
• Learn some insights from a true insider as author John Niven interviews singer-songwriter Alan Tyler about his memoir How To Never Have A Hit: The Confessions of an Unsuccessful Singer-Songwriter at The Social on March 3. Tyler, who will also sing a couple of songs on the night, is the frontman of country rockers The Rockingbirds, a band that broke into the 90s Camden indie scene, was signed to Heavenly, played Top of The Pops, and produced four Americana albums. His book charts his adventures with the bands and what happened next, against the backdrop of a changing London landscape.
• State of The Union aka songwriters Boo Hewerdine and Brooks Williams play Heath St Baptist Church on March 3.
• Ian Ball and Ben Ottewell bring the The Total Gomez Recall Tour to the Union Chapel on March 4. The duo, whose distinctly contrasting lead vocals created the band’s unique sound, will celebrate the full breadth of Gomez’s career by performing at least one song from each of the band’s seven studio albums, along with tracks from Abandoned Shopping Trolley Hotline and the Machismo EP. They will be joined by LA-based singer songwriter and long-term collaborator Buddy.
• Party into the night with South London punk rap producer and multi-instrumentalist Wu-Lu, hardcore ship hop artist Denzel Himself and the genre-defying SHEIVA at Barbican’s ClubStage (Feb 21).
• Grammy-winner Leon Thomas brings his first ever solo tour to Koko on Feb 21 and 23 following the release of second album Mutt. Also at Koko, veteran DJ Pete Tong takes over the decks on Feb 22 where he will be joined by Luuk Van Dijk, Cameron Jack and Lulah Francs.
