Lena Jonsson Trio play the Water Rats, July 14

LONDON was simmering over the weekend as the summer tribes crossed paths on their way to their various engagements – glittery bubblegum-hued Sabrina Carpenter fans heading to Hyde Park passing an edgier rock’n’roll crowd off to Finsbury Park for a more riotous line-up of Kneecap, Amyl and The Sniffers and Fontaines DC, while sparkles, rainbows and daring outfits punctuated the tube for the wild ride to Pride – not to mention the well-dressed Wimbledon fans attempting to navigate the glorious chaos – one of those weekends that brings the best out of the capital! See our reviews of Sabrina Carpenter at Hyde Park’s BST Festival, Daisy Clague’s take on Fontaine DC et al at Finsbury Park and Richard Osley on Rizzle Kicks at Somerset House’s Summer Sessions.

• Wherever you are in Camden, the music is never too far away and Camden Market – and Soul II Soul’s Jazzie B – are making sure this summer will be filled with beats with a free Summer of Sound series across July and August with live music, family days, cultural celebrations, and some big names. Jazzie B will curate the Back II Life Cafe, a Thursday night music series with special sets from The Specials’ ska-revival pioneer Jerry Dammers (July 18); One of the UK’s most respected reggae DJs David Rodigan (July 25); NTS DJ Shy One (Aug 1); A special set from Jazzie B himself, spinning the best soul, R’n’B, hip-hop, and dance classics (Aug 8); and radio veterans Tony Monson (Solar Radio) & Chris Baxter (Soul II Soul) playing soul classics, jazz and expert mixes (Aug 15). There’s also an Amy Winehouse tribute (July 20), BGT contestants The Big sing performing (July 27), a Bollywood Mela (Aug 9-10), Carnival warm-up with Small Green Shoots (Aug 21); DJ Fat Tony (Aug 30) and weekly family fun days.

• Lena Jonsson, one of Scandinavia’s most influential fiddlers, has performed for Barack Obama and Greta Thunberg and made a name for herself with her rockstar persona. Together with  guitarist Erik Ronström and bassist Krydda Sundström, they combine traditional Swedish folk music and the youthful sounds of rock, pop, jazz, American old-time and bluegrass to form the Swedish Grammy-winning Lena Jonsson Trio. They play Water Rats on July 14.

If you prefer your summer music festivals to have a little less grass but to be surrounded by some stunning buildings check out Somerset House’s Summer Series, which runs to July 20 – headliners include Rizzle Kicks, St. Vincent, Giggs & Family, Akinola Davies Jr, Jacob Banks, Freya Ridings, Joy Oladokun, The Paper Kites, The Snuts, Parov Stelar and Flo.

Running from 3pm to 8pm, you can exercise the party demons and be home before anyone dares mention the night tube. And if the thirst for over-30s partying continues, Age Against The Machine host an outdoor evening of 80s hits at Electric Ballroom on July 18 – ID required.

• Cult Aussie electronic outfit Severed Heads play what is billed to be their last ever live performance at Jazz Café on July 21.
