All Points East welcomes Raye

AFTER last year’s Camden Music Festival had to be cancelled just two weeks before the big event, the street festival is due to return to the borough with some ambitious if scaled-back plans for 2025. This year’s event takes over the streets between Sept 12 and 14 for a weekend of live music, DJs and more and the first wave of artists has already been announced. As well as the likes of Sister Sledge, The Specials and Jazzie B having been floated, early line-up announcements include: Good Mixer Stage, Inverness Street – Dirty Blonde, The Moonlight Sirens, SNM, Scratch Card, Sammy Star, Disco Marky; Dig It Sounds Stage, Buck Street – Terry Francis, Dan Carrier, Matty G, GBJ, Cazza Association, Aitch B – Soul2Soul; Mi Soul Stage in Camden High Street ft Matt White, Calvin Francis, Mastermind, DJ Bigger, Brian Power + The Bagleys Takeover with DJs Brandon Block, Ricky Morrison and Linden C. There are also promises of a big announcement coming soon from the Music Walk of Fame stage in Hawley Crescent.

All Points East concludes this week with three more nights of exciting line-ups to keep the summer vibes going as long as possible including Barry Can’t Swim, Confidence Man, Marlon Hoffstadt presents Daddycation, Orbital and Shygirl (Aug 22); Raye, Tyla, Doechii, Jade, Jyoty, Nao, Montell Fish and Cat Burns (Aug 23); and The Maccabees, Bombay Bicycle Club, CMAT, Black Country, New Road, Dry Cleaning and The Cribs (Aug 24). See the website for the full line-up.

• A carnival staple for 25 years, Norman Jay’s Good Times soundsystem bus is now to be found parked at Ally Pally on carnival weekend. So, if you don’t make it to Notting Hill over the bank holiday, join Norman and friends on Sunday (Aug 24) for an open-air, all-day party against a soundtrack of house, rare groove, jazz, disco, hip-hop and drum & bass – plus plenty of street food stalls.

Hawley Arms regular Yungblud brought Denmark Street to a standstill at the launch of his new music venue and clothing store with a surprise outdoor set of fan favourites. With the singer’s cult following, and his ability to attract huge crowds wherever he goes, the ground-floor store and multi-use basement venue, slated for poetry nights, gigs, screenings and event tarot readings, is likely to become a magnet for Yungblud fans. Denmark Street’s music history continues.

• Fugees founding member and former Haitian Presidential hopeful, the three times Grammy-winning musician Wyclef Jean plays a one night only show at Koko on Sunday (Aug 24).  Expect a career-spanning full band set on the weekend of Notting Hill Carnival – his first time participating in the event and his first London show in 15 years.

Don’t forget Camden Market Summer Sessions continue with BGT semi-finalist Ace Clvrk and a DJ set from Charles Prince (Aug 22); Deja and Deadly X Bashment (Aug 23) and Cam Bloomfield, Tommy Jules (DJ) + Roses Gabor (DJ) (Aug 24).

• Some folk music selections: Singer songwriter Elliott Morris, Green Note (Aug 22) and Lost Revellers, St Paul’s Church Garden, Camden Square (Aug 23); Lachlan Bryan and The Wildes, Green Note (Aug 24).
