CAMDEN Cult Cinema is giving audiences the chance to evoke a little of the feeling of being at Talking Heads’ 1983 Stop Making Sense tour, with a 40th anniversary immersive stand-up screening at The Vanguard on Oct 17. Combining a concert-style audio setup and standing audience to encourage a gig-style atmosphere with cinema staples of popcorn and hotdogs, the screening is part of a series of music-related films to be shown at the old Horse Hospital in Camden Stables Market. Running from Sept 18, the series features the stories and key moments of artists including Amy Winehouse – Back To Black (Sept 18); Aretha Franklin – Amazing Grace (Sept 19); and the many incredible musicians featured in Questlove’s Summer of Soul (Sept 25).

Autumn may be approaching but that doesn’t mean the festivals are over. York Rise Street Party returns on Sunday (Sept 8) with music, film, theatre, food, cabaret, circus and so much more. Set across a number of stages and stall along York Rise and Dartmouth Park Road, expect music from Seami with Ashii, The Overproofs, The Estimators, pianist Maddy Carty, the Dartmouth Park Collective, John Etheridge with Vilma Rowe, poet John Hegley no doubt accompanied by his ukulele, plus Smell Funky Beast and more. Sing-a-long to the blockbusters at the Garden Cinema and get those lungs ready for Massaoke / Rock Star Weekender. No street party is complete without some serious beats and a daytime rave courtesy of DJ sets from The Dig It Sound System, Pete Herbert, Neil Thornton, Travis Collins, Damian Williams and Stuart Langley. Be ready!

• Also on Sept 8, London Folk Festival takes place at a new location, Royal Academy of Music in Marylebone. The line-up includes Germa Adan, Bird in the Belly, Dipper Malkin, Jennie Higgins, Mishra, Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman.

Then, bringing the Black Metal to north London, Cosmic Void Festival hosts over 30 bands across four venues – Islington Academy, Electric Ballroom, The Underworld and The Black Heart on Sept 14-15.

• Travel a little further afield to Burgess Park for Jazz Cafe’s first ever festival on Sept 15 featuring Nils Frahm, ELIZA, Earl Sweatshirt, Omar Souleyman, Buena Vista All Stars, The Alchemist, Gilles Peterson, Habibi Funk, Kirollus and a number of other acts across four stages.

Lafayette London continues to attract names larger than its humble capacity, giving audiences the opportunity to see coveted bands up close. The latest – Madrid-based indie duo Hinds – appear at the King’s Cross venue on Sept 13, shortly after the release of new album VIVA HINDS (out Sept 6); and Blood Red Shoes play Lafayette on Sept 14.

• The National Breaking Championships brings breakdancing to Islington Assembly Hall on Sept 8, showcasing elite male, female and youth breakers battling for prized championship titles.

• Create your own rhythms with Green Note’s Drums of the World drum workshop led by Adam Teixeira.

• Yannis & The Yaw, the project of Foals’ Yannis Philippakis and late drummer Tony Allen, play Koko on Sept 13. The show was announced as a celebration of Tony’s life and creativity.

• Gigs to look out for: Dawn Landes & Friends performing The Liberated Woman’s Songbook with special guest Peggy Seeger, Barbican (Sept 7); Bambie Thug, Heaven (Sept 6); Carl Cox & guests, Roundhouse; The Herbaliser Band, 229 (Sept 8); Nabihah Iqbal, 100 Club Sept (Sept 6 + 8) and Utah Saints, 100 Club (Sept 14).
