Catch Freya Beer at The Dublin Castle [Gary Jones]
IT seems British Summer Time began just as British Summer Time – Hyde Park’s annual festival for the generations – ended. While there was a deluge on Andre Bocellli’s day and grey skies across many of the gigs over the festival’s two-week residency, the crowds were undeterred. Over at Wireless, the outlook was similar but the festival went on. See what our reviewers made of Stevie Nicks (with surprise guest Harry Styles, of all people) and Kylie at BST and all the fun at Wireless online at www.thecnj.com.
• Those at Ally Pally last week fared a little better, a balmy evening for Suede and Manic Street Preachers, and then scorchio for Tom Odell and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. It’s always been a lottery for British festival goers but nothing’s going to stop us getting our annual outdoor music fix.
• Nineties boy band heartthrob – is that word in use anymore? – Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter plays Dingwalls on Aug 6.
• As we learn Club de Fromage’s weekly shows at Islington Academy are coming to an end after nearly 18 years, look out for its final dates at the venue. In the meantime , all is not lost as the brains behind the confetti-filled pop parties promises that it will still pop up in different incarnations from time to time – for those that are old enough, check out Club de Fromage’s daytime party for over-30s at Scala on July 27.
• Gothic pop singer Freya Beer plays The Dublin Castle on July 27 following the release of her new single Tatianna.
• JUNO award nominees Rum Ragged have created their own distinctive Newfoundland Folk Music aided by bouzouki, fiddle, bodhran, banjo, guitar and button accordion. They play Green Note on July 27.
• Rapper Raleigh Ritchie aka Interview with the Vampire actor Jacob Anderson, plays two nights at Here at Outernet, July 30-31.
