• ABDUL Salam shows his total ignorance of the problems GPs face in their surgeries, (Clap for the NHS not the lazy GPs, Letters, May 21).

Would Mr Salam like to sit in a waiting room full of sick people, with who knows what, possibly infecting other people with a life destroying/changing illness?

If you “need” to see a GP (as I did) you will be able to see one.

Mr Salam wants a private medical for his personal reasons, according to his letter he has no medical reason for needing one (which is why he has to pay); the medical he wants does not need to be performed by his GP; so go to Harley Street.

NHS GPs are following Public Health England and government advice. Would he prefer them to see all and sundry (including the usual time-wasters) leading to GPs’ developing symptoms of Covid-19, then having to self-isolate to protect their patients?

The whole point is to prevent the collapse of the NHS due to staff illness & possible death.

He mentions the weekly clap. I would rather the public and he maintained social distancing than clapped.
