A 20p charge to spend a penny

• SPENDING a penny ain’t what it used to be.

We’re all being encouraged to get exercise by walking or cycling. In consequence our parks have been turned into quagmires.

And inevitably, with this massively increased footfall and many “oldies” with aged bladders, the demand for toilet breaks is peaking.

The reaction of the Royal Parks in Regent’s Park has been to introduce a 20p charge to use their facilities.

Worse than that, payment can now only be made by tapping a credit card. But many people don’t walk out with credit cards and they’re being embarrassingly caught short.

The consequences are not at all good for the park trees and bushes. Come on Royal Parks – give us a break!
