End the tyranny of the buskers
Tuesday, 4th February 2020
• WESTMINSTER City Council must take on the tyranny of the Oxford Street buskers who are loud, intrusive and not very talented.
The buskers’ repertoire is limited and along with the beggars, flower sellers, and living statues they make Oxford Street an obstacle course rather than a “shopping destination”.
We are now affronted at every exit of the Underground and each bus shelter by a either a musical ensemble or a rattling cardboard cup.
The “busking experience” is not a pleasant one. It may suit short-term visitors who find it quaint but many shoppers and commuters are happy to listen to their own music or none at all.
