Wardour Street Soho IMG_8825w

Plans to transform Soho into ‘a rubbish-free zone’ within a year have been revealed

• YOUR report (Forum’s bid for Soho ‘to come clean’, August 5) was not about some dubious self-righteous moral crusade.

No, it was a reference to the garbage that piles up in some streets and alleys.

I have, in my far from competent manner, been sketching round Soho. While my elderly backside feels tense on the hard pavement, what I notice uneasily is a lot of big rubbish lorries coming past.

They don’t always find it easy to negotiate the small and tight corners. There are also people with not-so-large rubbish carts, one of them, a ferocious art critic, claimed my sketches were garbage that should go in the bin!

The number of rubbish juggernauts passing through Soho is intimidating. A lot of them are just too big for a warren and maze such as Soho.

Still, some of us would prefer Soho to remain as down and dirty as possible, I guess.
