FORGET all about Arsenal’s Premier League clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this Sunday – there’s only one London derby that everyone is talking about.
And that will take place at the Maurice Rebak Stadium in North Finchley where unbeaten Camden Town WFC will be going head-to-head against neighbouring rivals Islington Borough in the Premier Division of the Greater London Women’s League.
Town will be well-rested ahead of their home match after their game against Luton Town Reserves at the weekend was postponed.
Or maybe it’s better to have had a game so that the players can keep their skills sharp, in which case it’s advantage Islington. They did take to the pitch on Sunday, and even better, they recorded a much-needed win to receive a timely boost ahead of the big capital clash.
Goals from Mia Fadeni, Freya Glen and Nicole Theofylaktidou saw Borough battle back from a 1-0 deficit at half-time to earn a 3-1 win over Leyton Orient at St Aloysius Playing Fields.
Now it’s all eyes on this Sunday, and Town chairman Richard Mahoney is urging fans to snap up free tickets and make a noise in the stands as electrifying as the action out on the pitch promises to be.
“I couldn’t be prouder of our unbeaten start to the season,” he said.
“The hard work, dedication and commitment our players and coaching staff have shown is truly inspiring.
“This Sunday, we face Islington Borough at the Maurice Rebak Stadium, a challenging opponent that promises to make it a thrilling contest. I’m expecting a fantastic game, and I’d love to see as many supporters as possible there to cheer us on. Let’s make it a day to remember!”
The kick-off for this Sunday’s London derby is at 2pm, tickets are free, and can be secured by going to the club’s website: www.camdentownwfc.com
