MIKEL Arteta found out the hard way why you shouldn’t play Premier League rivals in pre-season – let alone your noisy north London neighbours.

The Gunners’ tour of Asia ended in a 1-0 defeat against Tottenham in Hong Kong yesterday (Thursday). Pape Sarr’s stunner was worthy of winning any match – the midfielder robbing the ball off Myles Lewis-Skelly before lobbing David Raya from 40 yards.

Arsenal were far from happy with the goal, however, as they felt Lewis-Skelly was fouled by Richarlison.

The result took the gloss off Viktor Gyokeres’ debut. The Gunners’ new star striker, who joined on Sunday in a £63.5m deal, came on in the 77th minute but didn’t have time to make an impact on the game.

Spurs were presented with a trophy after winning the first-ever north London derby held overseas, leading last season’s Europa League winners to post on social media: “Another one for the trophy cabinet.”

Arteta saw his side dominate and have 16 shots, but only one on target. It’s why the Arsenal boss hinted before the game that the summer spending might not be over just yet.

“There’s still a long period with the window open,” he said. “So far, we are very happy with what we have achieved, [let’s] make sure that at the end of the window we continue to be super happy.”
