Dan Carrier’s movies news: Iranian Film Festival; London Film Festival
Friday, 11th October 2019 — By Dan Carrier

IF catching Tehran: City Of Love has got you in the mood for more Iranian film, fear not – the London Iranian Film Festival, now into its 10th year, takes place at the end of October.
Highlights include the comedy Radio Dreams (pictured) by Babak Jalali. It is the story of an Iranian writer who wants to bring together Afghanistan’s first rock band, Kabul Dreams, with US West Coast heavy metal legends Metallica…
It’s described as both “a reflection on immigrant life, as well as a loving ode to those who believe that music can change the world”.
Director Can Ulkay’s film Turkish Ice Cream tells the story of two brothers Mehmet and Ali, who live in a small Australian town.]
It is 1915, and they are faced with a stark choice: do they fight for the country they now call home, or the land of their birth?

• Over to the South Bank for more London Film Festival jinks: did you know that as well as a massive programme of films to gawp at, on Friday and Saturday nights the BFI Kitchen and Bar is turned into a club – with DJs playing music connected to films being screened?
And if you need a helping hand to recover from a night of dancing to soundtracks, check out this Sunday’s screening in the pitch dark of Miles Davis’s seminal jazz album, Kind Of Blue.
It’s free to get in, and basically you settle into a big seat, they turn off the lights and play you the album in its entirety.
It starts at 4.30pm.
