‘Rejuvenation’ plans for Oxford Street building

THE former home of BHS could be revamped to include office space and a “cultural hub”.

The project, announced by Berkeley Estate Asset Management and Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) for 33 Cavendish Square, includes new shops, “auditorium” and events area.

BHS had been in the Mayfair building from 1961 until it went into administration in 2016 and was replaced by the London College of Fashion, which has since moved to Stratford.

According to a press release about the project, the revamped block would have around 75,000 square metres of grade A office space, with the “cultural hub” given 3,500 sq m. The work would not be completed until 2033.

John Bushell, principal at KPF said: “The proposals for 33 Cavendish Square represent an important step in the rejuvenation of Oxford Street.

“The transformation will provide greatly improved retail space to help attract world-leading brands into the ‘nation’s high street’, and a dedicated space to promote creativity and innovation.”

The project team said it could create 1,200 jobs during construction and more than 4,000 when complete.
