A PENSIONER has been found dead at home after police were warned about concerns for her welfare.

Police are appealing for help tracking back through Rita Fleming’s final three days before she was found dead in mysterious circumstances in Golborne Road, Westbourne Park.

The 70-year-old was discovered in her home on Sunday June 23 after police forced entry and found her unresponsive. Cause of death has been classed as “unexplained” following an autopsy.

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell from the Metropolitan Police Service Specialist Crime Command said: “My team continues to work to establish the events that led to Rita’s death. This includes trying to build as comprehensive a picture as possible about her movements in the days prior to her being found. I would ask anyone who saw or heard from Rita from June 20 to 23, or anyone who has information they think could be relevant to this investigation, to get in contact with police immediately.”

At this stage Ms Fleming death is being treated as both “unexpected” and “unexplained”, terms which imply she died suddenly and in mysterious circumstances.

A full coroner’s inquest will determine the cause of her death in due course. The MPS said they had been alerted to concerns about the welfare of Ms Fleming, but would not be more specific. Welfare concerns are generally considered to be about neglect or abuse.

Police said next of kin have been informed and continue to be supported by specially trained officers.
