Triumphant Camden Town WFC players celebrate a league and cup double
IT’S been a season fit for the big screen for a blockbuster squad of footballers who have dominated the capital.
Just four years ago Camden Town WFC were battling it out in Division Two North of the Greater London Women’s League.
Fast-forward to 2025 and the club has just been crowned Premier Division champions, and with it secured a place in Division One of the London & South East Regional League.
And on Sunday Town’s triumphant team earned their fairytale ending when they overcame Hammersmith on penalties to clinch the John Greenacre Memorial Trophy and complete a magical and memorable double.
“It’s a story full of grit, belief, and ambition, and it’s only just beginning,” said club chairman Richard Mahoney, who lives in Highbury. “If it keeps going like this, don’t be surprised if Camden’s journey ends up on the big screen. One thing’s for certain, Hollywood would love this script!”
Camden had good cause to break out the bubbly once more at the weekend after surviving a nail-biting shootout at the Bedfont Recreation Ground in Feltham.
A tense and tactical encounter saw Camden carve out a late lead when Maxine Borden scored what looked to be the winner from the penalty spot after midfielder Jordyn Galway was brought down in the box.

But big cup finals are rarely without drama, and Hammersmith provided even more at the death when they equalised deep into injury-time through striker Lasharn Millwood to make it 1-1 and send an enthralling contest straight to penalties.
A topsy-turvy test of nerves saw Kelly Faye, Borden and Anna Paterson all find the back of the net, while Camden keeper Tamsin Wickens also played her part, making a smart save as Harry Sherman’s side edged closer to glory.
The decisive kick fell to Gemma Clenshaw, who unleashed a precise and powerful strike to seal a 4-3 victory and ignite Camden’s double celebrations.
“This is what 11 months of relentless hard work comes down to,” said manager Sherman.
“Week in, week out, these players have given everything, and it all came down to two huge games. We came out on top. I couldn’t be prouder of this group, they deserve this success. It has been a joy to work with them.”
Reinforcing the unity that lies within the squad, club captain Maria Paz Vera added with a smile: “Honestly, the team spirit in this squad is just unbelievable. The camaraderie, the laughter, the support – we’re like one big family.
“We’re all going on holiday together soon – you’d think we’d be sick of each other by now, but we can’t wait!”
But before the players can jet off for their well-earned break there’s one small task left. And that’s wrapping up their league fixtures this Sunday when they host Tooting Bec at the Maurice Rebak Stadium in North Finchley.
Kick-off is at 2pm – for any supporters who want free match tickets to join the party, visit the club’s website or find them on Instagram for details.
