THE future of a much loved Queen’s Park community centre has been secured, as Westminster City Council have agreed to purchase the building.
The Beethoven Centre in Third Avenue is home to services including Age UK Westminster, Carers Network and the Creative Futures charity, and is a vital community hub in one of the most deprived parts of the borough.
Now purchased by the city council the hopes are the community centre will safeguard affordable space for groups, charities and services such as health advice, housing support and community events.
The aim is also to help smaller organisations find a permanent base in the area.
Cllr David Boothroyd
Labour councillor David Boothroyd, cabinet member for finance and council reform said: “The purchase of Beethoven Centre will mark a significant step in our commitment to building a fairer Westminster.”
He added: “By securing this vital community asset, we are safeguarding affordable space for local groups and ensuring that the people of Queen’s Park have a vibrant, inclusive hub at the heart of their community.”
Once under the council the centre will undergo a full carbon assessment as part of the authority’s commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency, and is expected to operate on a self-sustaining financial model; meaning income will come from hires and rentals to cover the cost of running the centre.
