Blow for Town in push for the title
Club suffer first defeat of the season in the Premier Division of the Greater London Women’s League

CAMDEN Town WFC fell to only their first defeat of the season in the Premier Division of the Greater London Women’s League on Sunday when they were beaten 2-1 by South London.
A sparse crowd of just 35 supporters turned out at the Maurice Rebak Stadium in North Finchley, with the club blaming Storm Bert for the unusually low attendance. Town could have done with that extra roar from the stands as they went up against the team that knocked them out of the FA Cup back in September.
The hosts started brightly enough with Jordyn Galway and Maria Paz Vera causing havoc down the flanks. But they struggled to capitalise on their wide play as the first-half ended goalless.
It looked like business as usual just after the hour mark when Victory Edema finally broke the deadlock to give Harry Sherman’s side a 1-0 lead. But their advantage lasted barely a minute after a mix-up between goalkeeper Tamsin Wickens and defender Rebecca Smith allowed South London’s Georgia Oakley to pounce on a loose ball to equalise.
It went from bad to worse for Town when Leanna Glass powered a free-kick from distance into the back of the net late on to earn South London a 2-1 victory.
While the defeat was a blow to Town’s title push, results elsewhere provided some solace. Leaders Hammersmith drew 1-1 against Tooting Bec, meaning Town remain just one point behind in second place with a game in hand.
