Blame the pandemic, not Brexit

‘We did much better regarding the vaccine roll-out being out of the European Union’
• I HAVE to disagree with Harry Bourne, (More years of neglect than any other, June 10).
The reason Tim Martin’s Wetherspoon pubs and other places are short of staff is mainly due to the pandemic and the fact they had to close, not Brexit.
I agree, however, that jobs in the NHS, nursing homes, and hospitality do need to be paid better which is why people in this country do not want to do them.
We have an opportunity now to have a managed, balanced, immigration policy rather than freedom of movement with no controls. Some criminal records checks should also be made so that we don’t get undesirable people in the UK as well.
We can also hold governments to account and vote them out if we don’t like some of their policies rather than blaming Europe. If the government don’t level up then they will be out as they now have many seats in the North and Midlands.
We must also hold them to account over the money to the National Health Service though obviously it will take some time to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Finally, we did much better regarding the vaccine roll-out being out of the European Union. A clear case of taking control.
