Black History Makers: Now how about a monthly column?
• HUGE thanks to Angela Cobbinah and her colleagues for the excellent Black History Makers supplement (CNJ, October 22). Can we have more please?
It seems wrong to hive off such a huge part of our society so a community is only celebrated for one month of the year. How about a monthly column?
A suggestion to get the ball rolling again – Buchi Emecheta (1944-2017), Nigerian-born novelist, writer, single mum, she lived in what was then called a council estate either in Chalk Farm or Kentish Town and wrote about her life in the early 1970s; unheard of at that time.
She was published by Margaret Busby at Allison and Busby, another woman to include, a figure of huge significance and impressive work writing and publishing black writers.
Thanks for all your work.
