Beware of supporting the fur trade by mistake
Thursday, 14th February 2019
• RECENTLY I bought a hat locally with a furry pom pom. The seller assured me that it was made with no real fur, but on further investigation I found out that it was, in fact, made of real raccoon fur.
This shocked me (and the shop when I told them), as the hat had no labelling whatsoever. I find this quite hypocritical as we’ve banned fur farming in the UK but we still allow real fur to be imported from other countries.
At the very least I believe that items should be clearly labelled so that both sellers and buyers understand what they have in their shops. I want to urge readers to check carefully what they are buying as they may be inadvertently complicit in supporting a cruel fur trade.
