Benefits of Sackler cash
Thursday, 10th June 2021
• ZEKRIA Ibrahimi describes London museums as “pompous” and “stuck-up”, (Art has always had a dubious relationship with big money, June 4).
Her language in describing the Sacklers’ funding for several exhibition spaces as trying “to monopolise the London scene…” is also excessive.
Who in the wider Sackler family knew what in relation to the licensing of opioid drugs in the US is an open question.
But surely the licensing authorities, and doctors who over-prescribed, and individuals who took them and traded them on the black market, are also responsible.
It could also be argued that since the past cannot be changed at least the wider society can have some benefit from the available funds.
