Ban the bangs
• I AGREE that it’s time to ban fireworks.
It used to be just one night of loud bangs terrifying all pets and wildlife. I have a dog who is so frightened by the loud noise that sounded like being in a war zone.
It started on Friday November 3 and went on every night until Sunday November 12. This is completely unacceptable not only from the noise point of view but it is also really bad for air pollution as metal particulates permeate the air.
There is a petition to ban the sale of fireworks to the public which has now reached 48,000 (https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/639319 – please sign!). It expires on December 15 and may not reach the required 100,000 by then for it to be debated in parliament.
Could we not start with Camden Council banning noisy fireworks and only allowing silent fireworks? This would be a step in the right direction before banning the public sale of all fireworks.
Why are we still celebrating a Catholic activist who was trying to blow up parliament over 400 years ago, and was then captured, hanged, drawn and quartered?
