At least the Bloomsbury pollution has not increased

Impression of the current road layout under trial
• MY opinion has not be sought by the Bloomsbury Residents’ Action Group regarding the Tavistock-Torrington public inquiry’s report, (The inspector’s recommendations for the Tavistock-Torrington traffic trial offer a fair and balanced solution, June 7).
I walk along this stretch of road daily and do not see lots of congestion. Many cyclists and walkers enjoy the route and the segregation which validates the environmentally friendly modes of transport.
This is a beautiful part of Bloomsbury with Regent, Tavistock Gordon and Woburn squares a space for Camden residents to unwind and refocus. At least the pollution has not increased.
If westbound traffic is allowed this will bring even more of the most polluting old diesel cabs and vans back on to this road. This used to be one of the best short-cuts for London taxis.
Clean air must be Camden Council’s priority. This part of Bloomsbury has colleges and universities with many young people walking around the area.
If Camden does have to act to allow access to westbound vehicles I hope this would be for emergency vehicles and electric and hybrid plug-in vehicles only – rewarding drivers who have invested in the new electric cabs and others who are making a great choice to improve Camden’s air quality.
London must transform itself into the greenest clean air city.
