Assisted dying should be an option if I want it

• THERE is a lot of emotion and scare mongering against the assisted dying bill, (Most want an option of assisted dying, October 10).

There are lots of protections in the bill which is in fact very limited in its scope. It does not mean that someone else can make this decision for you.

I value my life. I also value my death.

I shouldn’t have to suffer at the end of my life if I don’t want to, and no one else (friends, family or doctor) should have to watch me suffer if I have made it very clear that I don’t want this.

As an older person, this is my body, my choice and my decision.

If other people don’t want the option to end their life when they are in the last stages of a terminal illness, that is completely up to them and they can tell their GP this; but the rest of us should be given that choice.
