FORMER Arsenal stars Alex Scott, Gilly Flaherty and Steph Houghton added a new honour to their glittering CVs on Monday when they were inducted into the Barclays Women’s Super League Hall of Fame.
Top-flight footballers since their teenage years, the trio were recognised for their longstanding contribution to the women’s game. All three continue to champion the sport in their retirement, but Gooners will, perhaps, best remember them for the part they played in Arsenal’s trophy-laden successes over the years.
Now a well-known broadcaster, 40-year-old Scott notably unleashed the wonder goal that won the Gunners the European title in 2007, one of 21 trophies in her 12 years in an Arsenal shirt. Flaherty, 33, who scored the WSL’s first-ever goal, racked up 17 titles in a decade with the north London outfit before claiming further silverware with Emma Hayes’ Chelsea.
Ex-England skipper Houghton, 36, helped Arsenal win seven trophies and led Manchester City to seven, too.
