• I AM sorry if the contents my letter, published by yourselves two weeks ago, (How to fund the rebuilding in Ukraine, May 19) were not clearer to your correspondent Clem Alford, (With Ukraine you know how difficult it is to get to the truth, May 26).

I was not suggesting that the assets of sanctioned Russian oligarchs be realised to rebuild Ukraine but that they be used to support those Russians who have fled their country in protest at its Ukrainian invasion.

As for the costs of rebuilding Ukraine, I suggested that these be met by the profits of those armament manufacturers who are providing the weapons to prosecute this war.
