Oxford Street

Oxford Street

• THE leader of Westminster City Council has finally noticed the proliferation of candy shops and “tat” shops on Oxford Street even though this has been ongoing for over a year.

The shuttered HMV flagship store in Oxford Street would have made an ideal, well-located, transport friendly library over three floors. It’s too late now.

Taxpayers need to be aware that the City Council’s apparent concern over sweet shops is not an excuse to “re-imagine” Oxford Street and Oxford Circus in another poorly thought through, over-priced scheme like the Marble Arch Mound.

It didn’t bring back tourists and local residents should be the council’s main benefactors of any future proposals and not design companies and motorway building contractors.
