Young sports stars are honoured at glitzy awards ceremony

THE borough’s young sports stars were beaming with pride after being honoured at a glitzy awards ceremony at the Talacre Community Sports Centre in Kentish Town recently.

Gospel Oak Primary School were crowned the Camden Schools Sports Association (CSSA) champions at the glitzy Camden Active Sports Awards

The Camden Active Sports Awards celebrated all the hard work and dedication that our talented athletes have put in throughout the school year.

They also recognised the commitment of all the teachers, coaches and volunteers who have supported the youngsters every step of the way.

Georgie Brophy was voted Team Camden’s ‘Outstanding Male’ at the London Youth Games after winning a gold medal in judo

Ben Dorsett, who works for Camden Council’s Sport and Physical Activity Service, said: “We have had a great year full of fantastic results and achievements. We celebrated our best ever result at the London Youth Games, finishing ninth out of 33 boroughs, and we won lots and lots of medals.

“But it’s obviously not just about the medals, it’s about giving as many young people as possible in the borough the opportunity to be active and take part in as many sports as possible.

“To do that it takes a giant team effort – too many people to name individually. But they all deserve tremendous credit and gratitude for all the hard work they put in, as do all our young athletes.”

Among the winners not pictured here are the squash squad, made up of members from Cumberland Squash Club in West Hampstead, who won the Outstanding Mixed Team Award; the table tennis players from University College School (UCS), who collected the Outstanding Male Team Award; and the netballers from Hampstead High School, who were presented with the Outstanding Female Team Award.

Liam Drake was voted the borough’s ‘Outstanding Para Games Male’ athlete after winning gold in the trampolining

All the above team awards were given for their efforts at the London Youth Games.
