Bitter taste with Brexit

• PAUL Bonny writes that staff shortages at Wetherspoons and similar establishments are caused by the Covid-19 pandemic not Brexit, (Letters, June 25).

This is not the view of Wetherspoon’s owner Tim Martin. He was a prominent leaver who at the time of the referendum claimed that leaving the European Union would not cause staff shortages.

Now that our glorious liberation from the EUSSR has happened he has changed his tune and is demanding that a special scheme to allow in EU workers to staff his pubs – on the lines of the current scheme for fruit-pickers – be introduced failing which some of his pubs will close.

The schadenfreude I, a former Remainer and current Rejoiner, felt was exquisite.
