A no-deal Brexit is not a good idea

• A NO-DEAL Brexit is starting to look increasingly likely and, if that happens, everyone will suffer no matter how they voted in the referendum.

Crashing out of Europe without a deal will have a negative impact on the economic prosperity and quality of life of every citizen; disrupted supply chains and lack of investment will result in industries contracting, there will be fewer jobs, and tax revenues to the government will be reduced, meaning less money for essential services such as health, social care, policing and education; travel will be more difficult with immigration delays at ports and airports and threatened food security could potentially lead to higher prices in the shops.

In this scenario it is difficult to see how the wage stagnation that has bedeviled many households since the 2008 crash is going to be reversed, resulting in even greater hardship and inequality. And rising inequality adversely affects everyone not just the poorest in society.

We therefore all have a responsibility, to ourselves and to future generations, to do whatever we can to prevent this disastrous outcome becoming a reality by insisting that our politicians put the interests of UK citizens before ideological principles and self-interest.
