HUNDREDS of students have said a final farewell to school after ripping open their exam results.

Sixth-formers across Westminster learned their fate yesterday, Thursday, after achieving top grades at A-level, BTEC and International Baccalaureate.

Surprisingly boys have outperformed girls for the first time in seven years.

Many students are off to university or to complete apprenticeships after scooping A*s and Distinctions (D) in their examinations.

At St Augustine’s CE High School, Maida Vale, there were nerves as students arrived at school for the final time to find out what their next steps would be.

This year saw increases across a range of A-level subjects with several departments delivering exceptional outcomes such as A-level further maths and graphics receiving 100 per cent A*-B.

Rachel Kelly, head of St Augustine’s, said: “We are immensely proud of every individual who contributed to these successes and wish all our students the very best in their next steps and look forward to hearing about their next adventure.”

There were also “incredible outcomes” from students at Westminster Academy, Westbourne Park, said headteacher Numera Anwar who was “so proud of each and every one of these students”, and added: “We thank them for all their contributions to the school and to the community, and wish them every success as they embark on their next chapters.”

After receiving some results for their students who completed the International Baccalaureate in July, Westminster Academy sixth-formers were celebrating further results today for students who received results for BTECs.

Some of the school’s top achievers were Ronald Stillwell who will be taking up a place at Oxford this autumn. Annis Coulton (pictured on page 1) will be going to Cambridge to study natural sciences.
Next destinations from students also included Bath, King’s, Exeter and Manchester.

Pimlico Academy pupils were also jumping for joy, including Kip who is off to the University of Manchester to study physics after receiving two A*s and two As. And Rabah plans to study computer science at King’s College London after receiving three “phenomenal” As.
