• YOUR report of plans for a commercial takeover of Bloomsbury Square by the huntin’/shootin’/fishin’ fraternity for some days in November quotes organisers as saying the event is open to the whole community, (Objections to countryside game fair planned for Bloomsbury Square, July 8).
Well, that says precisely nothing, since it can’t be otherwise, given they’re relying on having thousands of people trampling over the grass so as to provide customers for the dozens of stalls they plan.
The square certainly won’t be available for the normal uses we locals make of it; and not just for the days of the event, but for many days before and after. And your report refers to the potential for animal rights activists to “lobby” the event. That may turn out be too polite a term.
