• WHY do we need to ask head teachers, school governors and pupils, presumably for consent, to remove the name of a slave trader from a school? (Beckford School to open talks on changing name after slave history row, June 11).
If a name is wrong, it is wrong. The school should be told its name is being changed and invited to submit ideas for a new name.
Camden Council announced a change of name for Cecil Rhodes House in Somers Town back in the 1980s but failed to follow through. Hopefully this time it will happen.
On a national level I would love to see the statue of Edward Colston in Bristol replaced with a statue depicting the toppling of that statue.
In Docklands how about the statue outside the London Museum showing the defeat of Oswald Mosley’s blackshirts in the battle of Cable Street, one of the most iconic defeats of fascism on the streets of London?
